DEREVO, renowned physical theatre group, brings to the city its latest performance - poetic kaleidoscope of marine and sea images of irresistable beauty named "Islands".

Founded in St. Petersburg in 1988, Derevo (Russian for "tree") adheres to a rigorous aesthetic derived from Japan's postwar performance style of butoh. Their first, unforgettable performance was Red Zone, an exercise in brute metaphysical anarchy first performed in 1997. Next came Once, an uproariously comic yet deeply moving fable of unrequited love. La Divina Commedia, that received the special Fringe festival award, delves into themes of moral responsibility, mortality, celebration, suffering and spiritual redemption and is rife with Christian and pagan iconography.

Saint-Petersburg audience has already seen "Islands", DEREVO last performance, which was brought to the city by the Golden Mask theatre festival. This time this poetic kaleidoscope of images of irresistable beauty all having to do with the marine, the sea and the water will fascinate those who will choose to come to DK Vyborgsky on March 26 and 27.
