Russian Defence Secretary Sergey Ivanov and British Defence Secretary Geoffrey Hoon are meeting in St. Petersburg today to discuss international safety measures as well as the questions of further development of the relationship between Russia and Great Britain in the defence field. During Mr Hoon's visit, he will also meet with General Gennady Bobrishev, head of the Leningrad military district.
Mr Hoon and Mr Ivanov today have left for Peterhoff from the Peter-and-Paul Fortress by helicopter, where informal part of the meeting will take place. The leaders will then return to the city to hold short non-formal press conference in the Officers’ House. On July 17, Mr Hoon is placing a wreath at the Piskarevsky Memorial cemetery. A broad cultural program is also planned. 17th, in the evening, Mr Hoon will take off for England, from St. Petersburg.
