On February 13 the closed joint-stock company Saint-Petersburg Teleport passed an offer bid to the closed joint-stock company TRK Peterburg to make it a digit satellite TV channel.
This digital project is only one among several starting in 2004. Digital transition will allow the city TV channel to reach the national broadcasting level. The terms of contract are confidential. According to experts, the station lease might reach $1000 a day, while the annual maintenance of one satellite station costs more than $2 million.
The satellite station offered to TRK Peterburg for leasing is located outside St. Petersburg. On the whole, Saint-Petersburg Teleport owns 21 transmitting satellite stations nationwide.
