Official Approve Ust-Luga Dredging Project

Ust-Luga oil port

Russian authorities have approved plans for a dredging project at the Ust-Luga oil port in the Baltic. ”The project documentation was found to be consistent with environmental requirements for environment protection,” said a statement from Rosprirodnadzor, Russia’s environmental protection agency.
Russian Deputy Transport Minister Viktor Olersky said the Ust-Luga dredging program would allow the port to receive tankers of 150,000 deadweight tonnes (dwt).
Ust-Luga is being developed as an oil port and bunker terminal on the Russian coast in the Gulf of Finland, southwest of St. Petersburg.
It will include the terminal of the Baltic Pipeline System-2 (BPS-2), a pipeline bringing Russian oil to the Baltic coast.
Russian reports say the launch of a bunkering facility associated with the BPS2 is scheduled for 2012.
The port complex will be one of Russia’s largest oil terminals.
It is being designed for the storage and shipment of export crude oil, as well as diesel fuel, fuel oil, gasoline and gas condensate.
The dredging project is scheduled to run from 2011 to 2015.
