In 1990 the historical centre of St. Petersburg along with palaces and gardens of its suburbs were included into the list of the World’s Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, and the birthday of Petersburg is among the memorable dates of the organization.
During the meeting the Protocol of Cooperation between the Administration of St. Petersburg and the constant representative of Russia at UNESCO was signed. The document stipulates a number of joint events. In particular a UNESCO medal was established to be given during St. Petersburg jubilee celebration, a gala concert in UNESCO headquarters in October 2003will be held, etc.
Governor of St. Petersburg mentioned that 60 world countries have announced their participation in the coming jubilee celebration, including France, which is going to contribute substantially. As it was more than once noted, a special committee headed by the famous writer Marek Halter was established in France. Not only Paris, but some other large cities like Lyons, Nice, Bordeaux will participate.
