Vladimir Yakovlev, Governor of St. Petersburg, while speaking during the presentation 'Investment Climate and Opportunities in St. Petersburg' that was held yesterday, April 10, by the European Business Club in Moscow, said in two years the number of tourists in the city would double. While in mid-1990s St. Petersburg was annually visited by no more than 1.1 million tourists, last year their number came to 3.6 million.
Yet Governor also pointed out that Prague was visited annually by 12 million tourists, that is, St. Petersburg did not use its tourism potential to the fullest. There are plans to build new hotels in the city and enhance its infrastructure, he said, and 'In two or three years, there will be no bad roads in St. Petersburg, which is a must if we are to attract foreign tourists.
