The External Affairs Committee Presents the International Travelling Project “The King’s Road”

The King's Road According to the press service of the City Administration, the project “The King’s Road – Russia”, financed by TASIS, has united three countries: Sweden, Finland and Russia. Its realization started in January 2001. The works are planned to be finished by the end of April 2002. The realization of the project was carried out by the Finnish Tourism Board, members of the project “The King’s Road – South Finland”, Stockholm, Helsinki, Leningrad Oblast, as well as Russian towns Vyborg, Primorsk and Kronshtadt. Two joint tourism projects have been developed by present: “The Capitals of the King’s Road” (St. Petersburg, Helsinki, Stockholm) and “Stations of the King’s Road”, and a reference book for travel operators has been issued, containing thematic excursion modules for St. Petersburg, Stockholm, Helsinki and other cities in English language.

In September 2001 a familiarization visit to the Russian part of the King’s Road was organized for Finnish and Swedish travel companies and press. In the end of April 2002 a familiarization visit of the route “The Capitals of the King’s Road” for Japan travel operators and journalists is planned to be held. The familiarization visit for Japan travel operators is organized in cooperation with Silja Line, which plans to launch the product on the Japanese market in cooperation with Finnair.
