One of the oldest and most northern zoos in the world - Leningrad Zoo today is 137 years of age. It was based by animal-lovers Sofia and Yulius Gebgardt in August, 14, 1865. The Leningrad Zoo is the first capital zoo of Russia and unique in northwest of the country. It occupies the area 7,4 ga on which today there are 2184 specimens of more than 400 kinds of animals, 180 of which are registered in the Red Book. An emblem of the Leningrad Zoo - a polar bear, because these Arctic animals regularly reproduce in the Petersburg Zoological Garden since 1932.
Birthday here will be marked August, 14 and 17. Today children of preschool age will not tax for an entrance. Besides in Zoo’s Birthday children free-of-charge can visit the attractions located on territory (tramroline and a laughter room) and also drive on a pony. Spectators also can watch demonstrative feedings, excursions and performances of horse group.
Today at 12:00 here an hour excursion " Happy birthday, Zoo! " will be held, and on Saturday celebratory perfomance "The Robot from CosmoZOO" with songs, dances and jokes will be held.
