A meeting of the International Club of Saint Petersburg Citizens is being held today at Somerset House in London as part of the exhibition '300 years of Saint Petersburg: an open Russia.' President of the Club and Director of the Russian State Hermitage Museum Mikhail Piotrovsky will open the meeting. The event in the club is primarily a presentation of the club's activity in the run-up to the city's anniversary. The club has been given the right to act as social expert on the cultural programs that are to take place as part of the 300th anniversary of the city. The meeting will include a presentation of books published by the club and by the Rare Books of Saint Petersburg publishing company as well as pictures, city scenes and landscapes, by artist Irina Birulya. There will also be a ceremony to welcome some new British members of the club, who have made a significant contribution in terms of humanitarian cooperation between Great Britain and Saint Petersburg. Some prominent figures from the area of science, culture and business in London have also been invited as well as members of the Russian government.
