Idea of creation of the “Saint Petersburg’s golden book” has appeared in Northern capital in 90th years of XX century and has found support at the first mayor of city Anatoly Sobchak. Its prototype was the “Golden book of Russian empire “Figures of Russia” issued by the "Society of care of poor and ill children” in 1908. In May, 1995 public association "Saint Petersburg’s golden book" was registered by municipal government of justice. The purpose of the project – conducting of the Annals of Great city "in names and acts".
For the greatest contribution to development of city to the folio names of 35 laureats, among which are: sculptor Michael Anikushin, composer Dmitry Shostakovich, academicians Igor Glebov and Vladimir Peshehonov, oustanding sportsmen and statesmen are entered.
