In Saint Petersburg the monument to the first governor of city, prince Alexander Menshikov, today will be open.
His bronze bust will be established in front of the residence of prince on Vasilevsky island. In epoch of Peter I the palace was the first monumental stone construction in the city. The well-known "Peter’s assemblies" were held there.
The idea of creation of the monument to the first governor of St. Petersburg belongs to members of club of count Alexander Menshikov. The sculpture was created by Maria Litovchenko-Anikushina, the widow of artist Michael Anikushin. Foundry works were carried out by Denis Gochijaev's creative workshop which repeatedly cooperated with Anikushin. The president of fund “Nevsky prospect” Jury Zorin has provided the basic financial support. The granite basis and a pedestal for the bust are realized by firm "Revival" (“Vozrozhdenie”) on its own means.
