St. Petersburg university again has started to study the Caucasian languages

St. Petersburg university again has started to study the Caucasian languages After a fifty years' break at east faculty of the St. Petersburg state university the branch of study of Caucasus has opened. The presentation of branch of study of Caucasus is held on Monday, November, 18 in the University centre. of the Republic Armenia in Russian Federation Armen Smbatjan, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Republic Georgia in the Russian Federation) Zurab Abashidze, the head of the New-Nakhichevan and Russian diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Bishop Ezras, and also representatives of parliaments of the Transcaucasia countries will take part in the presentation.

In the framework of presentation it will be told about the new program of university, and also opening of the photo-exhibition "Beauty of Caucasus" will be held. On the exhibition more than 50 works devoted to historical sights of Georgia and Armenia will be presented.

Since September, 2002 on branch of study of Caucasus six students were accepted. They will study Armenian, Persian, Georgian, Arabian, Chechen and other languages of peoples of Transcaucasia, and also history, geography and ethnography of this region. On graduating of the university program which lasts 4 years, students will take the bachelor's degree, and the most talented can continue studying of the Caucasian languages further and can become masters.
