New minor planet will be named after Saint Petersburg's fortress To the state museum of Saint Petersburg’s history the certificate about appellation the name ”Oreshek” to a minor planet will be handed.

Representatives of Fund of prince Alexander Menshikov, including Daniil Granin, Andrey Petrov and Ludmila Zhuravleva will take part in ceremony. As the president of Fund of prince Menshikov’s memory Sergey Philippov has told, a minor planet opened by the employee of the Crimean observatory, will be named “Oreshek” after fortress near St. Petersburg .

On Philippov’s words, representative of Fund - the astronomer of the Crimean observatory Lyudmila Zhuravleva - has opened this planet in 1973. However till now the planet was anonymous: according to the established rules, to register and name a new planet it is necessary to receive confirmation on its observation from 9 observatories of the world. Recently such confirmation was received.

Appellation of a name to a new planet is held in the framework of the ten years' program "Memory" organized by Fund in 1993. According to this program, opened again minor planets of Solar system get names of historic figures and places. So, two minor planets opened by Lyudmila Zhuravleva last decade of XX century were named "Menshikov" and "Berezov".
