Amber Room to be opened on May 31

Amber Room is still being restored Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder will open the Amber Room on May 31st, Ivan Sautov, Director of Tsarskoe Selo Museum and Reserve, said.Mr. Sautov said also that experts had already described the Amber Room as “the eighth wonder of the world.” “No such masterpiece had ever been created in such a short time,” the director of the museum and reserve said. The opening ceremony will become a unique event in itself. This will be the first time in its history that Tsarskoe Selo will welcome 49 heads of state, Mr. Sautov said. All the guests of Vladimir Putin will be invited to admire the Amber Room, following its official opening. “A reception on behalf of the Russian President” will be held in honor of this event. Besides, on July 28 Tsarskoe Selo will host the International Research Convention dedicated to the newly restored Amber Room. Curators of «famous amber collections» will attend this event. UNESCO included the Amber Room opening ceremony in the official program of tercentennial celebrations in St. Petersburg
