Chairman of the State Committee for Statistics of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Sokolin, told about it at a press conference. According to Rosbalt News Agency, he said that, judging by the results of the census, the population of the Northern Capital had decreased by 6.4% since the previous census held in 1989. According to Mr. Sokolin, this is the result of “natural decrease”: death rate is higher than birth rate.
