SAINT PETERSBURG, September 19. 'New technology in cardiology' international symposium opened today in Saint Petersburg. The Dzhanelidze Scientific Research Center will host cardiologists from across the CIS. The symposium is devoted to finding better ways of caring for patients with chronic heart disease.
The World Health Organization (WHO) says that over the next ten years heart disease will be the leading cause of visits to the doctor and death. A large percent of patients (70%) require immediate diagnostic and treatment procedures. Treatment must begin even before a visit to the doctor, when the patient is in emergency care, and continue in the hospital. Nevertheless, these procedures do not reduce the number of deaths or cases of invalids resulting from chronic heart disease.
The CIS congress of cardiologists opened in St. Petersburg yesterday. It is the largest congress of CIS specialists in the area of heart disease and is being held for the first time. The congress is organized by the CIS Association of Cardiologists, Russian Health Ministry, City of St. Petersburg, Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.
