Leaders of the Jewish community of St. Petersburg, including the city's Chief Rabbi Menachem Mendel Pewzner, community Chairman Mark Grubarg and other community representatives, were invited to a special event celebrating the tenth anniversary of the city's Legislative Assembly. The event also involved Russian President Vladimir Putin, Governor Valentina Matviyenko, and the President’s Representative in North West Russia, Ilya Klebanov, who continues to maintain close connections with the local Jewish community.
The Jewish leaders were greeted by the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly, Vadim Tyulpanov, after which he congratulated them on the occasion of Chanukah. Rabbi Pewzner and Mark Grubarg then presented the top city official with a Menorah as a sign of the warm relations existing between the City Council and the Jewish community of St. Petersburg.
