The governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Matvienko took part in the ceremony of gala illumination of the Kazansky Cathedral.
“It is the first big present for St. Petersburg in the New Year, V. Matvienko said. Since this moment the outstanding architectural masterpiece will be brilliant not only during the day but at night as well. With the illumination the Cathedral begins the new stage in life. It is a sign that the Kazansky Cathedral starts new life on Christmas days, in the Old New Year Eve".
Money for this festive illumination project has been taken from extra-budgetary resources. Valentina Matvienko thanked “Russian Public-Service Systems” company which helped to bring the project into life.
This year, according to the “Light City” project, festive illumination will be switched in all main embankments of St.Petersburg: English, University, Admiralty and Lieutenant Shmidt embankments.
