On Tuesday the Mariinsky Palace in St. Petersburg hosts the opening of the international youth forum St. Petersburg UN Model 2005, which coincides with the UN's 60th anniversary.
According to the city committee for youth policy and cooperation with public organizations, the UN Model imitates the work of the real United Nations Organization, involving foreign relations and global economy students and graduates from all over the world.
UN Models are held annually in New York, Geneva, Bonn, Salonika and other cities. St. Petersburg hosts the forum for the first time. It will be attended by about 100 delegates from 20 countries.
For four days they will be emulating sessions of three UN Committees. The Security Committee will discuss international responsibility of states for violations in the space. The European Committee will debate potential opportunities for developing the program of four common spaces between the EU and Russia, while the ECOSOC's Committee for Science and Development will be working on a resolution on rational distribution of environmental resources in the international community.
The forum will finish its work on April 3. Its participants will adopt resolutions to be sent to the real UN.
