Three Russian clubs advanced to the group stage of the UEFA Cup Thursday night.
St. Petersburg club Zenit, and Moscow's Lokomotiv and CSKA made it through to the next stage. Only Krylya Sovietov from Samara failed to advance, as it went out on the away goals ruling after an aggregate 6:6 draw with Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.
Zenit defeated Greece's AEK 1:0 in Athens to go through after the goalless first leg in St. Petersburg two weeks.
Moscow Lokomotiv defeated Brann from Norway 3:2 and went through with an aggregate score of 5:3.
Current UEFA Cup holder CSKA beat Midtjylland from Denmark 3:1 repeating the result of the first leg.
The group stage starts October 20.
