Moby Dick to invest $10 mln in Nissan terminalThe St. Petersburg-based company Moby Dick, a subsidiary of Finland's Containerships Oy, plans to build a terminal in Kronstadt to import Nissan automobiles into Russia, Maxim Sokolov, chairman of the St. Petersburg investment and strategic project committee, told journalists on Wednesday.
He said that investment in building the terminal might amount to $10 million.
"The terminal is currently being designed, and town-planning documentation is being prepared. The company Moby Dick has been given a 10-hectare site west of the Litke base," Sokolov said.
He said that Nissan plans to import vehicles into Russian only through this terminal. A total of 40,000 vehicles will be imported in 2006.
Moby Dick launched the first phase of a container terminal in Kronstadt in August 2002 with a capacity of 75,000 TEU, following investment of $10 million. The second phase, also with a capacity of 75,000 TEU per year, was launched in October 2005. Investment in the second phase also amounted to $10 million.
