At Baltic Shipyard the first serial nuclear Siberia ice breaker is put

On May 26 at Baltic Shipyard the ceremony of a laying of the first serial nuclear ice breaker of the project 22 220 - "Siberia" took place. The laying of an atomic-powered vessel was dated for day to the birth of Baltic Shipyard which was 159 years old.
Took part in action: the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Rogozin, the governor of Murmansk region Marina Kovtun, the Member of the Federation Council of Federal Assembly of Russia the representative in the Federation Council from Administration of Tula region, the President of the State polar academy Artur Chilingarov, the CEO of Rosatom state corporation Sergey Kiriyenko, the CEO of Federal State Unitary Enterprise Atomflot Vyacheslav Ruksha, the president of JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation Alexey Rakhmanov, the chairman of Committee on industrial policy and innovations of St. Petersburg Maxim Meyksin and other guests of honor.
Speaking at a ceremony, Dmitry Rogozin noted importance of creation of powerful nuclear icebreaking fleet which will represent interests of our country in the Arctic the region in which many world powers are interested. He also emphasized that the created ships have to be designed and equipped according to requirements of time. Sergey Kiriyenko, in turn, emphasized that development of nuclear icebreaking fleet opens great opportunities for our country from the economic point of view. The Northern Sea Route the main trade highway between Russia and the Far East, its development will allow to have essential impact on economy of Russia in general.
The engineering design of the Siberia ice breaker was developed by CDB Aysberg in 2009. The vessel possesses a two-sedimentary design which allows to use it both in the Arctic waters, and in mouths of the polar rivers. But nevertheless the Arctic region will become the main place of its service. On the vessel specially developed two-reactor power station will be used.
