Gates of the Winter Palace have opened to the public for the first time yesterday. The Russian premiere of "Seven Gates of Jerusalem" oratorium by Krzysztof Penderecki, conducted by the composer himself, took place in the Hermitage Museum's Main Yard. The opening of the gates is one of the stages of "New Entrance to the Hermitage" program, which will complete by 2003. Visitors will then be able to enter the museum from Palace Square. Photo by N.
