Soon everybody will be able to acquaint with “The Testament of Peter I”

the two-meter Vivifying Cross of carved ivory made after conception of Peter I The Museum of City's History and the Petersburg Centre of Carved Ivory will present the program “The Testament of Peter I” on January 28. Its goal is to raise money to complete works on restoration of a two-meter Vivifying Cross that is to be given to the Peter and Paul Cathedral to the three-hundredth anniversary of St. Petersburg. To remind the Vivifying Cross of carved ivory was made after conception of Peter I and was installed in the Peter and Paul Cathedral to the 30th anniversary of St. Petersburg. Peter I himself carved medallions with faces of saints. The unique cross was ruined in the midst of XVIII century. In 1998 Petersburg masters started revival of the lost masterpiece.
