Staging of the ballet was performed by Alexei Ratmansky. This is not the first work of the young choreographer on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.
Sergey Prokofiev conceived the ballet precisely for the Mariinsky troupe in the early forties. But the war prevented these plans – the theatre was evacuated. The composer finished its work in 1944, and the premiere was held in 1945 in Moscow, at the Bolshoy Theatre. At Kirov (Mariinsky) Theatre “Cinderella” appeared in 1946 staged by Konstantin Sergeev. The most famous west staging was performed by Frederick Ashton, at Sadler's Wells Ballet (now Royal Ballet), in 1948.
