On the Troitskaja square solemn opening of the monument to victims of political reprisals is held.

The initiator of this action is the Petersburg society "Memorial".

The huge /10 ton / stone brought from Savvatjevsky political monastery - one of the camps located on Solovetskie islands – becomes the monument to all prisoners of GULAG and to victims of communistic terror .

Authors of the project of a monument - the honoured artist of Russia Eugeny Uhnalev and the deputy of the State Duma July Rybakov.

The same day at a monument will pass the meeting devoted to anniversary of the beginning of “red terror ". Memebers of societies "Memorial", "Civil control", “Union of the right forces” and other democratic movements of St. Petersburg will take part in the meeting.
