The 5th festival of Spanish classical music is to be launched in St. Petersburg on October 4th and will be on till October 13th. The Orchestra of the State Hermitage, the orchestra of St. Petersburg, Spanish and Russian conductors and performers will participate in the festival. The festival program consists in 6 evening concerts. The opening of the festival will take place in the Big St. Petersburg Philharmonic Academic hall, the others will be held at the Conservatoire and in the “Smaller Hispanic Clearance” of the Hermitage and at the Hermitage Theater. This year the opening concert of the festival “The Panorama of Symphonic music” is dedicated to Shavier Montsalvatage, a great Spanish composer, who passed away spring this year. The festival will also reveal to the spectators a Spanish opera of XVIII century “Glaura and Cariolano” which will witness its first performance after 1792. The First festival of Spanish music was held in St. Petersburg in 1998. Ever since then the festival’s ultimate goal was to bring Russians to know the Music Art of Spain as well as support cultural exchange between the two countries.
