On October 22-28, 2001 the 7th annual International "St. Petersburg Open" ATP Tennis Tournament will be held in St. Petersburg. For the seventh time the world-famous players will meet on the courts of the Sports Complex Peterburgsky.
For the period of its existence the Tournament has gained the status of one of the major and most important sports events, which brings prestige and credit to St. Petersburg. It traditionally attracts the attention of tennis fans as well as of the sports and business elite of St. Petersburg and Russia.
The Tournament has risen to the new level after increasing the prize money from 340,000 to 800,000 dollars. The confirmation of such a significant increasing of the prize money says about the acknowledgement of the Tournament by the ATP. In 1999 the Tournament has gained the special award for the "Record Attendance".
Sports Complex "Peterburgsky" is one of the largest indoor arenas in Europe, which can seat up to 12,000 people. In 2000 42,000 spectators have attended the Tournament. St. Petersburg Open is traditionally broadcast by international TV channels and for the national 150 million audience.
