September, 17 in the State museum of a history of Saint Petersburg the exhibition "Black-and-white St. Petersburg" will open At the exhibition, dated for the 300-anniversary of Northern capital, the Petersburg landscape embodied in the black-and-white print technique from engraving of Peter the Frst’s time up to a modern photo will be presented. More than 100 engravings, lithographs and photos from collections of the Museum of a history of Saint Petersburg, the Fund of Russian modern art in London, private collectons of Moscow and St. Petersburg are presented at the exhibition.
Carefully selected images allow to present all variety of city motives and techniques of print (etching, aqatint, monotypy, xylograph, linoleum engraving and many others) and also enable to compare the approach of engravers and photographers to such traditional genre as a city view.
In April, - May, 2003 it is planned to show the exhibition"Black-and-white St. Petersburg" in London, in showrooms of a house-museum of lord Leyton. It becomes one of the central events of the exhibition program in London, dated to a 300-anniversary of Saint Petersburg.
