October, 30 St. Petersburg mountain-climbers started their preparation for mounting the Everest devoted to St. Petersburg’s 300th anniversary
St. Petersburg mountain-climbers started their preparation for mounting the Everest devoted to St. Petersburg’s 300th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the first mounting the world’s highest height. On this was reported at the International press-center “300 Years to St. Petersburg”. The expedition leads the organizer of many climbs, Andrei Yershov, its senior coach is the Honored Master of sports, twice the conqueror of the Everest without oxygen, Anatoly Moshnikov.
St. Petersburg’s federation of mountain- , rock- and ice-climbing has confirmed on the staff of the jubilee expedition “Everest-2003”. The crew will consist of ten people – the strongest sportsmen – mountain-climbers of the city on the Neva who have been climbing for 20 years and have experience of conquering the heights in seven and eight thousand meters (there are about 25 such sportsmen in the Northern capital). For the purposes of ensuring safety measures the crew will have a physician. There is one woman in the staff also, her name is Marina Yershova and she plans to conquer the Everest without oxygen device.
“The best present for the great city’s jubilee is the conquering of the great height”, considers the president of the mountain- , rock- and ice-climbing federation, Oleg Kapitanov, “The Everest is a definite hymn, a salute to St. Petersburg providing successful mount”.
The expedition starts from the city on the Neva in March 2003 and will last till the end of May with duration in 62 days.
