In August 2001, during the St. Petersburg official delegation stay in Riga for the event of the 800-anniversary celebrations in Latvia capital, to Governor Vladimir Yakovlyev addressed archbishop Aleksandr (for the present moment he is the metropolitan of Riga and All Latvia, Aleksandr) with an appeal to provide help for the orthodox church.
A parish of the city of Gravyery of the Daugavpils region set up in 1836 needed a bell (symbol of unity of Russian orthodox church). Now, the sponsors of this project are private people. Some of them work for “Baltiyskaya Construction Company”. Their names will be listed on the inner side of the Bell. The work is due September 15.
