According to “IMA-press”, a contest on “Environmental accomplishment of the Palace Square” took place recently; its winner became “Vozrozhdenie” company bidding the least price, 411mln rubles. Before May of 2003 on the main square

of the Northern capital will be replaced engineers’ network together with the system of street lighting; repairs of roads and pavement will be carried out.

The asphalt of the sidewalks will be replaced with granite gravestones in order to make one joint character for the Palace Square and the bordering territories – the Dvortsovy passage, the Millionnaya and the Bolshaya Morskaya streets. To make of the Palace Square a trim character, in dark time of the day “Environmental accomplishment of the Palace Square” project assigned to make a design highlight of Winter Palace’s facades, of the General Staff and the Marine Archive as well as the Aleksandrovskaja Column.
