The 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg must give the city a new impulse because of the fact that St. Petersburg citizens are waiting not for the holiday only but for actual steps that will improve their lives, thus stated President of Russian Federation.
In Vladimir Putin’s interview to journalists of “RTR-St. Petersburg” television canal and to “Nevskoe Vremya” newspaper he stressed that “we must make a wise use of St. Petersburg’s 300th anniversary events and not only to refurbish facades but also help the city to acquire a new impulse for its development, put into exploitation important city infrastructure objects”.
In particular, the president spoke of a ring road that will take upon itself transit transport and will allow to relieve of heave vehicles’ pass in the center of St. Petersburg. He also spoke of a set of constructions that block water flow for the emergency of water floods and also of a broken Kirovsko-Vyborgskaya line of St. Petersburg metro that need repairs’ work. Recurrently, the work on these construction objects is blocked. President Vladimir Putin is persuaded that all these objects must be accomplished before the anniversary.
The president also gave statement with regard to mortgages in housing as solving the problem of settling apart communal flats. He referred to the positive experience in this sphere of Moscow and Cheboksary. St. Petersburg for today stays the city of communal flats (Putin himself lived for a long time in one of these). President also stressed that a large number of foreign guests confirming their decision to take part in St. Petersburg’s 300th anniversary celebration will not be a barrier for the St. Petersburg citizens to get pleasure from the holiday.
In his opinion everything must be organized so that the passage of government corteges does not block streets and perspectives, and for the guests to have an opportunity for better view of St. Petersburg.
In Putin’s words, high foreign guests that visit our Northern capital can popularize the city and promote for the tourist sector development of the city.
St. Petersburg is bind to be a living link between Russia and developed world. Vladimir Putin thinks that St. Petersburg can stand it.
