Bulgaria’s participation in St. Petersburg’s jubilee

Bulgaria’s participation in St. Petersburg’s jubilee The Bulgarian Federation of Friendship with the People of Russia will set up a National Committee for St. Petersburg’s 300th Anniversary Celebration. The Committee will be set up on a basis of the acting Committee for preparation for Bulgaria’s 125th anniversary of release from the Turkish invaders by Russian troops, the latter was widely celebrated in Bulgaria in 2002.

During the past week under the initiative of the Bulgarian Federation of Friendship with the People of Russia and other CIS countries a meeting of the chairman of the Committee-300 Natalia Batozhok with the chairman of this federation Z. Zakharieyv took place. The guest (Z. Zakhariyev) was got acquainted with the program of the city’s preparation to the jubilee, the calendars of jubilee year and of the decade of jubilee celebrations, May 23 – June 1, 2003, as well as with proposals of foreign countries on participation in the jubilee’s program and the program of exhibitions devoted to St. Petersburg’s 300th anniversary.

A program of holding of Bulgaria’s week in St. Petersburg was discussed.

The V exhibition “Bulgaria Congratulates St. Petersburg” it is planned to hold in the Center of International Cooperation (in the Shuvalovsky Palace), with participation of the delegations of cities actively cooperating with St. Petersburg – Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas. It is planned to hold a holiday of Bulgarian wine. In the course of the discussion Natalia Batozhok recommended to assign the holiday to “Russian Farmer” jubilee fare. The possibility of organization of a tour of Bulgarian theatres in the theatres of St. Petersburg was discussed. The project of installation in our city of a monument to the Bulgarian enlighteners and founders of the Eastern Slavonic writings – to Kirill and Mefody – it is necessary to co-ordinate with the principal painter and architect of St. Petersburg I.G. Uralov.

With questions of official invitation, placement and service of Bulgarian delegation it is suggested to address a working group under leadership of vice-governor of St. Petersburg – chairman of the External Affairs Committee A. Prokhorenko. The Bulgarian party took a decision to represent to the Committee-300 programs of Bulgaria’s participation in St. Petersburg’s jubilee before October 2002.
