St. Isaac Cathedral, one of the most outstanding architectural monuments belonging to late Russian classicism, built into design of Auguste Monferran, is going to meet the Northern capital’s 300th jubilee in all its splendor.
The constructors and restorers of St. Petersburg will do their best. These days in St. Isaac Cathedral simultaneously the work is being done by a number of big firms that are restoring the Cathedral’s walls and roof, its bronze high relieves, are washing granite columns and a cupola.
To remind it our readers, St. Isaac Cathedral is included in the European edifices with the largest cupola construction. By its grandiose dimensions (its height is 101.5 meters) the Cathedral yields only to St. Peter’s Cathedral in Rome; it is almost equal to St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.
