Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga, Vladimir’s opinion Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga, Vladimir has no objections against the use of Alexander Nevsky’s portrait in the air over the Peter-and-Paul’s fortress during the time of St. Petersburg’s 300th anniversary celebration.

According to the press-service of the Committee on preparation and holding of St. Petersburg’s 300th anniversary celebration, the metropolitan announced on this at the reception of the Committee’s chairman, Natalia Batazhok.

The metropolitan suggested that the ceremony of shift of the icon of Alexander Nevsky and its delivery to the Senate Square be done on the 27th, and not on the 31st of May, 2003 as it was planned earlier. He also draw attention to the fact that Alexander Nevsky was canonized to be a saint not during the 1920s but yet at the 13th century.

At the reception, the possibility to hold public prayers at the Isaac’s and the Kazan Cathedrals was discussed. The metropolitan was acquainted with the calendar of the jubilee year and the jubilee decade.
