Angel belonging to the Peter-and-Paul’s fortress, Chariot of Glory on roof of the General Staff building, the Alexander’s Column, the Rostral Columns and other architectural monuments of the Northern capital will be restored to the capital’s 300th anniversary.
On this reported today Head of the city administration’s Committee on control, exploitation and protection of monuments (KGIOP), Nikita Yavein. Represented by N. Yavein chart of restoration works in the historical center of St. Petersburg accounts for 181 objects with indication of the resources of finance. The restoration of the monuments started in 1999 and mainly it will be accomplished in the 2003 jubilee year. Among the most complex objects of restoration N. Yavein named St. Isaac, Kazan and Peter-and-Paul’s Cathedrals. On the day of its 300th anniversary the city will not get rid of construction’s scaffolding though, noted the KGIOP head. According to him, the restorers “will not work in detriment to quality”.
