For St. Petersburg’s 300th anniversary the municipality of Amsterdam passed an architectural complex “Amstelhof” to the fund “Hermitage On Amstel” in order to open in it a filial of Russia’s largest museum.
The project “Hermitage On Amstel” invented by Mikhail Piotrovsky together with his Amsterdam colleague, Director of the “New kirchen” museum Ernst Vein is the present to St. Petersburg’s 300th anniversary.
Once in 18 months into the restored in accordance with European museum standards buildings of the complex will arrive expositions from the Hermitage and other Russian museums. In the garden of Amstelhof, exhibitions and concerts under the open sky will be held.
The plan of expositions is composed by M. Piotrovsky and E. Vein for the nearest eight years. The first one -- in the year of 2003 -- will be opened in the already vacant from its former lodgers outhouse. In the building, the children’s center “Maly Hermitage” will be placed. The other spots will be active by the year 2007.
