The second birth of St. Petersburg’s famous Troitsky bridge
11.18.2002 17:26

The second birth of St. Petersburg’s famous Troitsky bridge This passage between the Palace and Petrovskaya embankments, built for the city’s 200th anniversary, lived through its capital reconstruction one hundred years and obtaining its own historical face.

The Troitsky bridge appeared in St. Petersburg 100 years ago. This bridge was a present of the French Republic to St. Petersburg’s 200th anniversary.

A whole century the bridge stayed without the capital repairs. This was the reason its restorers had plenty of work now. The bridge’s drawbridge mechanism and metallic firms were totally replaced. Its piers were fortified, and the special asphalt does not cover with ice now even in the temperature of minus ten degrees centigrade.

The artists had work, too. Several lost elements, for example the emperor’s monograms, were returned to the famous three-corned lanterns.

Extremely carefully approached the task of restoration of the original decoration of the Troitsky bridge. Modern high-proof bolts were done in the form of ancient rivets. When the question of keeping the tramways’ traffic was discussed, the electrical piers has played not the last role. For they are also historical ones, being identical to the ones from the pre 1917 revolution photos. Special anti-vibration cushions were placed under the rails.

All in all the usage of modern technologies allowed the constructors to give serious guarantees to their work. ‘The bridge will stay till the city’s next jubilee’, said Vladimir Yakovlev, the Governor of St. Petersburg.
