‘St. Petersburg is a young city, it is only 300 years old and in this it has much in common with the United States’, considers the Director of the Hermitage, Mikhail Piotrovsky. Exhibitions and performances devoted to the city will be held all over the U.S.A., including Washington, New York, Baltimore, Atlanta, Ann-Harbor, New-Heaven.
In the New York “Metropolitan” artistic museum the spring exhibition will be held, in July 2003 in “Metropolitan Opera” there is a concert tour of the Mariinsky theatre ballet troupe under the leadership of Valery Gergiev. A conference at the University of Columbia has been planned. The New York Public Library of performance art prepares an exhibition devoted to the creative work of famous ballet dancer Vatslav Nizhinsky. In Washington, Mstislav Rostropovich will perform with the National symphonic orchestra of the Kennedy Center.
