11.21.2002 16:47

The first in Russia’s history dolls opera for St. Petersburg’s 300th anniversary The first in Russia’s history dolls opera will be performed during the days of St. Petersburg’s 300th anniversary celebration.

The “Count Nulin” opera of dolls is unusual first of all for its staging. The roles in the performance are attributed to dolls scored by the best voices of the St. Petersburg opera.

In scoring such famous artists as Mikhail Kit, Natalia Korneyeva, Vyacheslav Lukhanin and Marina Ushchapovskaya took part. The Count Nulin’s part is done by Nikolai Baskov. The music for the performance is recorded in the aesthetics of symfo-bidge by composer Boris Sinkin. According to him, the performance is done in the people’s opera genre and pursues sound desire to become fashionable so that a music cocktail from different composers – Chaikovsky, Alyabyev, Gurilev mixed with the Russian folklore and blended on all musical styles – from classics to the rock, is used.

The “Count Nulin” opera, a present to St. Petersburg’s 300th jubilee, is unusual for its technology of the phonogram recording, too. Almost all the main parts of the singers as well as the chorus and the orchestra were recorded separately, and later united in an atelier. According to Vladimir Tikhomirov, the sound-director of N. Baskov studio, the technology of recording used was of the kind that allowed to employ life acoustics; N. Baskov got interested in this opera first of all by its wit and a unique conception.

“Count Nulin” is staged on the money of a publishing house and is realized with the support of the International press-center and the Committee on Culture at the St. Petersburg Administration without attracting the federal and city budget money. All the artists took part in the recording for gratis.

The opera’s producer Vadim Milkov told the journalists that the idea of the performance was born a long time ago, after a visit to Zaltsburg, while seeing the performance of the “Magic Flute” Mozart opera in a local dolls’ theatre. ‘I am convinced that at the present day dolls can perform even sharper than people’, Mikov says.

The Premier of the “Count Nulin” dolls opera will take place today at the international press-center, St. Petersburg’s audience will be able to see it during the days of the city’s jubilee on Malaya Sadovaya street, where specially for that the arch number 6 will be equipped.
