Norwegian government allocated 500,000 Norwegian crowns (around USD 70,000) for restoration of St. Petersburg’s Museum of Dostoevsky due to the Northern capital’s 300th anniversary. On this the prime-minister of Norway Hyel Magne Bunnevik announced today.
In the Museum of Dostoevsky the Norwegian side aims to hold a series of events during the jubilee celebration days. “Our great poet, the Nobel prize winner Knut Hamsun called for a creative example to be taken from Dostoevsky”, Bunnevik stressed.
Bunnevik also announced that during 2004-2005 both in Oslo and St. Petersburg there will be held a large-scoped exhibition “Russia-Norway. Through centuries and borders”, devoted to the 100th anniversary of independence of Norway; Russia was the first country to admit it.
“The exhibition is going to reflect the depth of cultural and human ties between Russia and Norway. The historical and cultural phenomenon of St. Petersburg brings special charm to the jubilee celebration where the actual Russian president was born”, stressed Norwegian prime-minister.
