Mass-media representatives got acquainted on the course of the repairs work of the Voskresensky Channel and the three-spans Voskresensky bridge in front of the Mikhailovsky Castle facade at a press-conference.
According to the director of the Russian Museum Vladimir Gusev, both the building and the adjoining park will be restored to their original appeal back of two centuries ago. For the present moment restored are decor’s multiple elements; the throne room of Empress Maria Fedorovna and the former dining-room are opened.
About 65 million rubles has been invested into the Castle’s reconstruction during the current year. All these money has come from the federal budget in time and in full amount. The end of restoration, the full cost of which has been estimated in 1.5 billion rubles, is scheduled for 2008.
To remind it our readers, it has been since long time that the Mikhailovsky (Engineer’s) Castle became the symbol of the Northern capital. In May-2003 days of St. Petersburg’s 300th anniversary celebration it is going to see its first visitors. There are plans to accommodate the artistic exhibition of children’s works “Petersburg through the eyes of children” and the works of the Renaissance epoch on the territory at the moment of the castle’s opening.
