From December 29, 2002 till January 2, 2003 “real” Santa Claus from the Finnish Lapland will be stationed in St. Petersburg.
Such a present Lapland provides to our city for the beginning of its 300-anniversary. The agreement on Santa Claus’s participation, together with Russian Grandfather Frost from Veliky Ustug, in the ceremony of the New Year opening in St. Petersburg was reached during the recent visit of Lapland’s Governor, chairman of the Northern Forum Hannele Pokka.
Obviously, such a present deserves respect because at the time of the New Year coming Lapland will be left without its principal character and the main tourist sight.
In St. Petersburg Santa Claus will take part in a number of events together with Russian Grandfather Frost. The peak moment of Santa Claus’s stay in our city will be his participation, together with Grandfather Frost, in theatric ceremony of the jubilee year opening on December 31 at 11pm on Birzhevaya Square, at the Spit of the Basil Island, on the so called “bridge of friendship”. At 0:30 the fairy-tale characters will continue their mission on Dobroliubova Square.
