Foreign countries and international public organizations show increased interest for the forthcoming jubilee of the Northern capital. Many of them have developed special programs attributed to the date.
A part of these programs is held on the territory of the countries themselves where Russian community has played a considerable role in the country’s cultural and political life. For example, in Paris at the UNESCO head-quarters took place a conference devoted to fulfillment of the events under the UNESCO leadership in honor of St. Petersburg’s 300th anniversary. The deadlines for holding of certain events have been established as well as the responsible parties for the carry-out of the event have been appointed.
Member of the Russian Federation Council, the Admiral of the Fleet V. A. Popov, descendant of the Orlov dynasty N. V. Orlov, the president of the St. Petersburg Marine Assembly took part in opening in Villefranche which is close to Nice of a memorial plaque devoted to the Russian sailors who in the epoch of Katherine the Great and under the command of the Orlov brothers held a battle with Turkish fleet.
The V Festival of Russian art and cinematography on Cote D'Azur was devoted to the jubilee of St. Petersburg. In the framework of this event took place round-table under the theme “Global Alliance and cultural differences” in which representatives of the French and Spanish humanitarian community as well as a large number students from the Nice University took part.
