On Tuesday March 25 Frigate Co. gave a presentation of the "St. Petersburg As Cultural Crossroads" City Guide.
The project authors say that St. Petersburg As Cultural Crossroads project is a series of city guide brochures and videos reflecting the multicultural heritage of the city on the Neva. Elizaveta Nedviga, Director of Frigate Co., said that the series would present 12 city routes highlighting various national cultures in interaction throughout the history of St. Petersburg. The project includes Dutch, Italian, French, German, Swedish, Finnish, English, Jewish, Spanish, Arab, Chinese and Japanese routes. A total of 35 travel guides will be published. Each of those will be presented in English, Russian and the language of the country the route represents. At least 60,000 copies of each will be published. The English and the French route guides have already been published. They were presented in February 2003 at the St. Petersburg Day of the Tourism Fair in Milan. By May, the organizers hope to complete work on the Chinese, Japanese and Arab routes. The project in its entirety will be completed by July 2003. Videos, which are included as a part of the project, are often different from the guides and do not copy the structure of the publications: Italian Melodies, Shi-tze in St. Petersburg, and others. The Greek Route video is currently under production. Video series will be presented in Russian and English. The project is carried out under the auspices of UNESCO, and with participation of the UNESCO Secretariat. “The St. Petersburg anniversary is the time to make sense of the past and look into the future,” says Tatiana Akindinova, Professor of St. Petersburg State University. The organizers of the project invite the guests of the city to appreciate the role St. Petersburg has played throughout 300 years of its history
