The St. Petersburg Governor's press office told Rosbalt that the exhibition is one of the largest national projects undertaken by Russia in recent years and is being supported by the Russian government. The opening ceremony was attended by Russian Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Ilya Khlebanov, Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit, St. Petersburg Governor Vladimir Yakovlev, and Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Krylov. In total, 350 people have traveled from Russia to take part in the exhibition. The exhibition in Berlin has two sections. The first is devoted to St. Petersburg's 300th anniversary and the second is a trade and economic exhibition entitled 'Russia - Germany: Trade and Economic Partnership'. The '300 Years of St. Petersburg' section features materials devoted to historical and contemporary St. Petersburg. As Germans in St. Petersburg historically played a major role in science, the economy, culture, education, the military and government service, particular emphasis is given to the history of diplomatic, cultural and trade relations between the city and Germany. The trade and industry section features displays by Russian regions and ministries, and major Russian businesses seeking partners abroad. The exhibition will be accompanied by a wider business programme, which will provide interested circles in Germany with up-to-date information about the political and economic situation in Russia and the conditions for doing business, as well as the state of development of individual sectors and the attractiveness of individual regions to investors.
