On the occasion of the St. Petersburg jubilee, the Government of Germany will give the Big Hall of the State Philharmonic Society an organ costing EUR 1 mln. 300 thousand. German Consul General Ulrich Schening said at the St. Petersburg Tricentennial International Press Center that the organ, “spoilt by restoration” in the 1970s, in July 2003 after a special farewell ceremony would be taken to Germany for restoration which would turn it into a new instrument preserving only 10% of the old organ’s details.
Besides that, according to Ulrich Ernst, head of the German Consulate’s Division of Culture and Press, on 27 May, 2003, the Government of Hamburg will give the State Philharmonic Hall a Steinway concert piano which cost the Hamburg budget EUR 150 thousand. The piano, which has already been delivered to St. Petersburg, should “acclimatize” by the gala concert which the Philharmonic Hall will host on the city’s jubilee day.
