“We are to show a grand gala concert on Palace Square on May 28. We organize such events, first of all, for those who cannot go to other events”, - says Valery Gergiev, Artistic Director of Mariinsky Theater. - “Even now, you cannot but see that it would be difficult to get tickets to many concerts and performances.”
According to Valery Gergiev, the best dancers and singers of the Mariinsky Theater will be “in Palace Square - in the very heart of St. Petersburg”. “We will show what St. Petersburg can really be proud of”, - added Valery Gergiev. Ballet companies, ballet schools and ballet stars will be performing on May 28 on Palace Square. Among other pieces, the most famous ballet soloists of the Mariinsky Theater will show Sergey Prokofiev’s Cinderella. The last concert of the Mariinsky Theater took place on Palace Square last year, and, while it had been planned that the audience would be 15-20 thousand people, about one hundred thousand people came. “In Moscow, when we played Musorgsky’s Pictures from the Exhibition at the Easter Festival, there were half a million people, and nobody wanted to leave”, - tells Valery Gergiev. - “This makes us hope that Russia is a country where culture is not a matter of the past, but also a matter of the future.”
