An open-air ethnic music festival is to be held in St. Petersburg during the city's anniversary celebrations between May 27 and June 3. This was announced yesterday at the International Press Centre in St. Petersburg by local musician Sergei Gasanov.
'Ethnic music in St. Petersburg is not organised,' he said, 'so we are establishing this festival to try and set this to rights and draw a wide audience to ethnic music.' According to Gasanov, the festival will become an annual event.
Gasanov added that the exact venues for the festival had not been decided yet. He said that the festival would include groups from Armenia and Lebanon, as well as Russian groups specializing in Celtic, Moldovan and Balkan music.
